A rare Schuco yes/no Bellhop Teddy Bear, circa 1926, with short golden mohair head, hands, large flat feet and tail, clear and black glass eyes with brown backs, pronounced muzzle, black stitched nose, mouth and claws, tail-operated head mechanism, original red and black felt integral uniform with pillbox hat with leather chinstrap, white trim and black felt buttons, jointed limbs with cloth pads, black leather shoulder bag, original Schuco Imp card tag and metal factory number tag ‘7/40 - 62000’ —13 ½in. (34.5cm.) high (moth holes to edge of hat, other small moth holes and slight ageing) - probably a factory sample from when the Schuco archives were sold in the late 1970s - this actual bear appears on page 43 of The Teddy Bear Encyclopaedia by Pauline Cockrill; purchased from Christie’s South Kensington lot 368, 28th June 1990 - see Some of our Favourite Bears by Ian Pout, page 17
