A rare Gebruder Sussenguth Peter Teddy Bear circa 1924, with brown tipped white mohair, the composition swivel head with moving eyes, open mouth with teeth and moving tongue, jointed body with felt pads, slight hump, inoperative growler and original ribbon —14 1/4in. (37cm.) high (slight fading) - Gebruder Sussenguth, founded in 1894 in Neustadt, Bavaria, originally made composition dolls. In 1925 they manufactured a "Peter" bear; a combination of doll-making technique and teddy design, it was not successful seller. In 1974 a couple of hundred bears were discovered in East Germany within a former closed down factory.
