A Chinese export black lacquer 19th Century hand-painted fan, decorated to both sides and retaining its original fitted black lacquer case together with a Chinese pierced bone brise fan

The black lacquer box for the painted fan has signs of age and wear to the outside. The gilt picture has rubbed and faced with time, there is chipping to the edges and extremities. The fan within is in good condition. The sticks, ribs, guards and leaves all sound, painting is bright, fresh and unfaded. The lacquer is sound and the gilding imaculate. The retainer which holds the rivet/pivot at the head (base of the blades) has become detached and the blades can become loose. A new retainer should be fitted. The bone fan is in excellent condition.
