Two small Chinese porcelain blue and white dishes

Sold for £380
Estimated at £50 - £100

Two small Chinese porcelain blue and white dishes, one café au lait style, probably 18th century, the other with dragon to front, 12cm, with chop mark to base (2)

The smaller dish (with cafe au lait glaze to underside) measures 10.5 cm in diameter. It has the satin surface generally associated with marine submerged pottery, The old note accompanying this lot, indicating that this came from a wreck, probably relates to this dish. The other dragon-decorated dish, with the sealmark to the base, measures 12 cm diameter and is of high quality porcelain and decoration. It is probably the central decorative madallion of what was originally a larger dish or bowl which has been ground down and reduced in size to remove damage to the rim. It is now an interesting documentary piece.
